  • They have thus qualified for the Super 8 stage of the tournament.
India defeated USA in the T20 World Cup 2024 in what was their third win the tournament in a row, after their victories against Ireland and Pakistan earlier in the tournament. This means that the Men in Blue now have 6 points from three games in their group, and have sealed their place in the Super 8 stage of the tournament, with one match still to play against Ireland. The question now on everyone's mind is who would Rohit Sharma and his men face in the next stage of the T20 World Cup.
India qualified as the 1st placed team of Group A (A1), which was pre-decided based on their seedings. They will now be grouped with the teams marked B2, C1, and D2, Australia are the other team that has qualified into this group, as they were the second-seeded team in Group B after England, even though they will finish with more points than the defending champions. Hence, an India vs Australia juggernaut match is already confirmed to take place on June 24 at the Darren Sammy Cricket Ground in Saint Lucia.
The other teams that India were scheduled to face, if the seeded teams qualified for the Super Eight stages would have been New Zealand and Sri Lanka. However, both teams might not qualify for the next stage of the tournament at all. New Zealand suffered back-to-back matches against Afghanistan and West Indies, and lie on the bottom of the points table. If they don't manage to qualify then Afghanistan will be the team that qualify in India's group. The match between India and either New Zealand and Afghanistan will take place at the Kensington Oval on June 20.
On the other hand, Sri Lanka have been virtually knocked out of the T20 World Cup as they have just 1 points from their three games. In that case, as the group D stands, one of either Bangladesh or Netherlands is expected to qualify for the Super 8 stages. Hence, India will face one of the two sides in their second Super 8 encounter at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua on June 22.
India need to finish as one of the top two sides in their Super 8 group, and only then will they qualify for the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2024. If they then win the semi-final, they will have a chance to qualify for the final scheduled to be held on June 29 at the Kensington Oval.
