India will face Canada in an inconsequential match in the T20 World Cup on Saturday in Florida. Men In Blue already secured a place in the Super Eights with a win over the USA in the last game.
Ahead of their game against Canada, Team India had to cancel their practice session at the Central Broward Regional Park as per a News18 report. It has been raining heavily for the past few days in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and there is a huge uncertainty about whether the match will go ahead as per the schedule or not.
The forecast predicts rain and thunderstorms throughout the remaining part of the week and it will be a piece of bad news for Pakistan who still have a slim hope of qualifying to the next stage. The match between USA and Ireland are also poised to be staged at the same venue while Pakistan are also scheduled to take on Ireland in their last group stage match in Florida.
India’s plans will not have any effect as they have won their all three matches and are sitting comfortably at the top of Group A. But for Pakistan, if the game between the USA and Ireland washed away, they will be officially eliminated from the T20 World Cup.
Given the current weather conditions, their chances of survival are looking very bleak as only two teams will advance to the next round. The match between Nepal and Sri Lanka was also abandoned due to rain without a ball being bowled on June 12.
India’s main concern has been Virat Kohli’s form and this match against Canada could have been the perfect opportunity to restore normalcy. Virat is yet to reach double figures in each of the three matches he has played so far.
He has been opening the innings with Rohit Sharma and ahead of the Super Eights’ his return to form will be necessary for the Men In Blue. For the USA, they will be quite happy with the outcome as they will join India in the next round from Group A.
It remains to be seen how the weather god behaves on matchday.
