Former Windies cricketer Kieron Pollard, who represents the Southern Brave in The Hundred, smacked five consecutive sixes off Trent Rockets' Rashid Khan in a game on Saturday, August 10. The blows came when the Braves needed a tricky 49 runs off 20 balls as they looked to chase down a 127-run target. Rashid had figures of 1/10 in 15 balls, only to be destroyed by Pollard.
Pollard sent the first two deliveries over cow corner and long-off. The third ball went over Rashid's head in a classical embarrassment for the bowler, followed by another over deep midwicket.
The final delivery was again over long-off as the equation came down to 19 off 15 balls. Watch the video here:
Pollard lost his wicket soon after the onslaught, but the Braves crossed the line with a delivery to spare, in what turned out to be a close game.
Earlier, Rockets' Lewis Gregory won the toss and opted to bat first. But none of the batters turned up at their best with Tom Banton's 17-ball 30 taking them to a paltry 126.
In the chase, Alex Davies and Braves skipper James Vince gave the team a good start before they were reduced to 78/6. Pollard then followed up with his onslaught to take his team to safety. He was named Player of the Match for his 23-ball 45.
Pollard said that he has played a lot against Rashid and he knew what he had to do to get runs off him.
"Played a lot against him. He has got me out on a lot of times; had to see what was happening, but I knew the sort of lines and lengths he was gonna bowl and just backed myself if he bowls short I'm gonna go across, and if he comes full and I'm gonna back my strength which is to hit straight," Pollard said at the post-match presentation.
The Braves next play the Welsh Fire on Wednesday in Southampton at 7:30 pm IST.
