Ravichandran Ashwin Returns, No Sanju Samson As India Announce Squad For ODI Series Against Australia

India are all set to take on Australia in a three-match ODI series, after the Men in Blue absolutely decimated Sri Lanka to with their record-extending 8th Asia Cup title. With the World Cup 2023 beginning just a few days away, two of the greatest ODI sides currently will take on each other in what will be some great match practice for the mega tournament. India has finally announced the squads for the tournament.
The biggest news coming out of the squad announcement is the fact that Ravichandran Ashwin makes his return to ODIs after missing out on the format for more than a year. This also raises hopes that Ashwin might join the Indian team for the World Cup as well. For the first two ODIs, some senior players have been rested namely Virat Kohli ,Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya. KL Rahul will be the captain for the first two games, while Ravindra Jadeja will serve as his deputy.
Ruturaj Gaikwad will make an appearance for the first two ODIs in place of Rohit Sharma before he travels to China for the Asian Games.
Washington Sundar has also been included in the squad in addition to Ashwin for the final two games as backup to the injured Axar Patel. Axar suffered an injury during the Asia Cup 2023 Super Fours against Bangladesh and had to miss out from the mega final against Sri Lanka. Washington Sundar was drafted in as his replacement for the game, and even secured a spot in the playing XI.
Shreyas Iyer suffered back spasms and missed a number of games in the Asia Cup 2023. However, he is fit and has been selected for the series.
The series will start in Mohali on September 22 (Friday) before the teams travel to Indore for a match on September 24 (Sunday). The series finale will take place in Rajkot on September 27 (Wednesday).
