India's top T20I batter Suryakumar Yadav has hit back his haters for stirring controversy over his game-changing catch in the final of the 2024 T20 World Cup against South Africa on June 29 at Kensington Oval in Barbados. With South Africa needing 16 runs off 6 balls to win the title, Suryakumar, positioned at long-off, took a spectacular catch to dismiss David Miller. Diving full stretch to seemingly prevent a six, he ensured he stayed inside the boundary line, cleverly tossing the ball up before completing the catch to send the crucial batsman back to the pavilion.
“I didn’t touch the line when I caught the ball in the final match against South Africa. We can’t keep everyone happy. I did what occurred to me as correct. By the grace of God, I was there when the ball came towards me. I got a chance to take the catch. I am relishing that moment'', Suryakumar Yadav told the press.
“I had practiced many times to take a catch like that one. During the match, my mind was calm. God gave me an opportunity to do well for the country'', he further added.
Suryakumar Yadav's catch sparked controversy because replays showed the boundary rope seemingly behind the line marked as the boundary. However, the truth has been clarified: the marked line was not the actual boundary. Throughout the final match, the boundary rope was placed behind the marker. This adjustment was made due to the pitch used for the match, ensuring the boundary size was adequate. The line visible in the footage was from a previous match at the venue, where the rope had been set further ahead.
SKY is presently resting after the demanding World Cup schedule. The stylish batter is expected to return to action in the upcoming series against Sri Lanka, which is scheduled to take place from July 27 to August 7.
