''The Best Is Yet To Come'' : Brett Lee Draws Jasprit Bumrah Comparison With Oscar-Winning Movie

Australia legend Brett Lee believes that India's pace-bowling ace Jasprit Bumrah has not yet reached his peak and that his best is still ahead of him. Bumrah was outstanding in last month's T20 World Cup, keeping an economy rate below 5 and delivering a remarkable performance in the final against South Africa.

Former Australian fast bowler Brett Lee has praised Jasprit Bumrah, stating that he would be regarded as a great in any era of the Gentleman's Game. Bumrah earned the ‘Player of the Tournament’ award in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, taking 15 wickets with an economy rate of just over four runs per over and also bowled a crucial spell in the Final against South Africa, which helped India to overcome their opponents by 7 runs.
In an exclusive interview with Sports Tak, Lee was asked whether Bumrah has reached his peak or if his best performances are still ahead of him. Lee compared Bumrah to Brad Pitt’s character in ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,’ suggesting that he seems to get better with time.
“The best is yet to come. He's like Benjamin Button getting age,” Lee said.
He regards Bumrah as a contemporary great for excelling in all formats of the game. He remarked that Bumrah's yorker is nearly impossible to play.
“Definitely in any era mate because you have to go on the person's style, you have to go on what they bring to the table,” he said.
Lee mentioned that Bumrah has good pace and remains quick, capable of maintaining the right line and length in Test matches. He added that with the white ball, Bumrah can open the bowling and excel in the death overs, where batsmen often chase 12-13 runs per over in T20 cricket. Lee highlighted that Bumrah's yorker is nearly impossible to play against.
“Someone like a Jasprit Bumrah can shape the new ball. He's got good pace, he's still quick and he can bow that line length in Test match cricket. But then you throw in the white ball, he can open the bowling but then if you're trying to close out in death overs, you got guys chasing 12-13 an over at the end in T20 cricket and he bowls a stunning yorker. It's almost impossible to play him. So, he is world class in any era. I've really enjoyed watching his career unfold. I've had the pleasure to work and commentate and broadcast on a lot of his overs.”
The 2-time ODI World Cup winner also spoke highly of Rohit Sharma, who recently retired from the shortest format of the game after winning the World Cup.
“I think Sharma is a terrific captain. I think he knows his players very well and understands what he's trying to achieve from all of his teammates but the greatest thing with with a guy like a Jasprit Bumrah is that he can bowl two up front he can bowl one through the middle and then he can bowl one to death,” the legendary bowler said.
