Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe could make a quick return from injury in the Champions League. The former PSG man suffered an injury against Alaves in the La Liga and was supposed to be on the sidelines for a prolonged period.
But to everyone’s surprise, the player was included in the squad against Lille in the Champions League and now manager Carlo Ancelotti has provided a positive injury update.
The Italian revealed Mbappe can start the UCL game but only if there is no risk to the player.
As quoted by the Athletic he said, “Mbappe has recovered well, very quickly,” the Madrid manager said. “Only yesterday he trained individually. He didn’t stop for long and he hasn’t lost his condition.
“Today (Tuesday) he will train the whole training session. We will make the most appropriate decision today, bearing in mind that we are not going to take any risks.”
Ancelotti continued: “He has had an overload. They’re talking about (a) grade I (hamstring injury) . In the old days it was an overload. With the new technology, he’s fine. He’s here to play. We’re not going to take any risks. Obviously if there is no risk, he will play from the first minute.”
Mbappe has already stamped up his authority with seven goals and one assist in nine matches in all competition for Los Blancos. He arrived in Spain on a free transfer from PSG and the onus will be on him to defend Real Madrid's Champions League title successfully.
