John Isner, a former world renowned tennis player and holder of the ATP record for the fastest official serve, has recently shown his excitement for pickleball. Although he was initially unsure about the sport, he now considers it an important part of his athletic routine.
Isner started playing pickleball three years ago and quickly grew to love the game. Although he was sceptical about professional pickleball at first, he realized its potential as he continued to play and learn more about the sport.
"I'm happy to say I was wrong," Isner admitted. "Pickleball is a fantastic sport, and I've really enjoyed playing it."
Isner is known for his incredible serves on the tennis court. He holds the record for the fastest "official" serve in tennis history, reaching 157.2 MPH. Throughout his career, Isner achieved impressive rankings, reaching as high as world No. 8 in singles and No. 14 in doubles.
What's John Isner's DUPR?
"If Ben (Johns) is a seven, then I think I'm a 3.5," is John's answer when Zane and Thomas ask him to guess his own DUPR. John, who is not familiar with DUPR scores, was later shown that his DUPR is actually a 5.276.
Basic Rules Of Pickleball
Serve: The serve needs to be underhand and the ball must be served below the waist. The service needs to be executed diagonally to the opponent’s service court and the server must stand behind the baseline at the time of serving.
Non-Volley Zone (NVZ): There is a designated “Kitchen” (non-volley zone) near the net and players are only allowed to hit the ball if it bounces inside the NVZ. It will be considered a fault if a player stands on the NVZ and hits a volley.
Rules: The scoring rules define that a game, in general, is played to 11 points and the winning side must keep a two-point margin. Both the server and the receiver side need to let the ball bounce once before returning it to the other side. The server also needs to call out the score at the time of the service and upon his failure the game needs to be replayed.
If a player or a side steps into the Non-Volley Zone while volleying it will be considered a fault. Hitting the ball outside the court and serving the ball into the wrong court will also be a violation. If a serving team commits a foul the server will be changed and if the serving team commits a second foul the serve will be transferred to the opponent team.
