Ace Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic walked out of an interview with the BBC after repeated questions over the feud with the Centre Court crowd after his win over Holger Rune in the Wimbledon 2024 fourth round irked him. Within a minute into the interview, he looked upset over repeated questions about his outburst at the Centre Court crowd after his fourth-round men's singles match against Holger Rune.
Djokovic kept his calm and answered three questions on the trot about his accusations against the London crowd 'disrespecting' him during his straight-set victory over Rune. But after a point, he straightaway asked the presenter if he had any other questions other than the crowd problem.
BBC later confirmed on their social media handles that Djokovic walked out of the interview midway. Watch the video here:
"Novak Djokovic walked away from our post-match interview last night after we asked him about his reaction to some of the Centre Court crowd," BBC tweeted.
A historic 25th major win is coming into sharp focus for Djokovic, who demolished Rune in straight sets in the fourth round.
Australia's Alex de Minaur, who won the 's-Hertogenbosch event on grass in June and will face Djokovic in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, can at least take heart from his win against Djokovic at the United Cup in January.
Djokovic hit out at sections of the Centre Court crowd after his fourth-round victory over Rune on Monday, saying that fans showed a lack of respect and accused them of booing him.
Tennis legend John McEnroe, no stranger to love-hate relationships with fans throughout his career, said that some supporters resent seeing Djokovic collect 24 major titles, surpassing the achievements of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.
Djokovic launched an angry outburst at a section of Centre Court fans who chanted "Rune" throughout his victory over the Dane.
Djokovic has fought a long, often losing battle to win over tennis fans around the world.
