Retired IFS Officer Shares Wife's Detailed Vegetable Shopping Guide, Internet In Splits
A retired IFS officer's wife created a hilariously detailed vegetable shopping guide, sparking laughter and praise online.
The post was shared on X
Mohan Pargaien, a retired Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, has amused the internet by sharing a meticulously handwritten guide his wife prepared for buying vegetables from the market. The list, which he posted on X (formerly Twitter), provides step-by-step instructions on how to pick the right produce, complete with specific guidelines and even drawings.
The guide offers detailed advice on selecting each vegetable, from specifying the colour and ripeness of tomatoes—"a mix of yellow and red"—to strict warnings to avoid any that are loose or have holes. When it came to potatoes, the instructions were just as precise, with Pargaien’s wife cautioning against picking any "green-eyed" ones and specifying medium-sized potatoes only. Fenugreek, or methi, had its own set of rules: the leaves had to be fresh, compact, and free of holes. The list even included illustrations to help choose vegetables like chilies, spinach, and onions.
Pargaien shared the amusing image with the caption, “While going for the market for vegetables, my wife shared with me this, stating that you can use this as a guide.”
Take a Look at the Post:
The post quickly went viral on social media, with users praising the level of detail and laughing at the micromanaging. One user commented, “Wow, efforts put in to create vegetable buying guide and granularity of details is amazing, hats off! Bookmarked it for future reference and looking forward to a full guide for other vegetables and fruits. But it’s scary for husband, as it leaves no margin for any error.” Another added, “That’s something really helpful for beginners in the sabzi market.”
A third user chimed in, “Awesome specs... bouncing this off with my wife for validation,” while a fourth humorously noted, “That looks like a religious book written by great scholars. Scary if something goes wrong.”
