A group of teenagers from Houma, southern Louisiana, made an extraordinary claim of encountering a Bigfoot-like creature with "glowing eyes" while camping in the Kisatchie National Forest, according to a report in the New York Post. The recent high school graduates were camping approximately 100 miles northwest of Baton Rouge when they reported the sighting to the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Office last week.
Bigfoot, also known as Sasquatch, is described as a large, hairy, humanlike creature believed to inhabit remote areas of the northwestern United States and western Canada. Despite numerous anecdotal reports and alleged sightings, there remains no scientific evidence confirming the existence of Bigfoot.
The teenagers reported seeing a large animal resembling the creature shortly after setting up camp about a mile and a half off Back Bone Trail in southern Natchitoches Parish.
According to the sheriff's office, a member of the group "heard a growl and saw what appeared to be an animal that had glowing eyes and stood about 5 feet tall" around 9:20 pm on June 28. The group, all aged between 17 and 18, immediately called the emergency helpline 911.
Law enforcement responded promptly to the call, arriving at the campsite to ensure the safety of the teenagers. Following the sound of their whistles, deputies located the group, who were startled but unharmed. They were escorted out of the forest without incident.
Despite a thorough investigation, authorities from the sheriff's office were "unable to locate any suspicious activity involving a growl with glowing eyes and standing 5-feet tall."
This incident is not the first of its kind. Last October, a couple claimed to have captured evidence on camera suggesting the existence of 'Sasquatch' or 'Bigfoot'. The viral video showed a peculiar-looking creature wandering on the side of a mountain before resting. The footage sparked widespread speculation and interest.
"We were looking for elk in the mountains and my husband sees something moving and then can't explain it. So he's like 'Bigfoot!'" Shannon, a 44-year-old contractor from Cheyenne, Wyoming, told the media outlet.
"It was at least six, seven feet or taller. It blended so well with the sage in the mountains that it was camouflaged when crouching down... If you had asked us before our trip, we might have said maybe [Bigfoot] could be real, but now we're convinced."
