Islamabad: Shibli Faraz, Leader of the Opposition of the Senate of Pakistan, heaped praises on India for successfully conducting Lok Sabha elections and pointed out flaws in the electoral system of his own country. Even though he termed India as "enemy country", he did not mince his words when he expressed his disappointment over the failure of Pakistan to conduct elections.
In his address, Pakistani Opposition leader Shibli Faraz praised “enemy country” India for smooth, free and fair elections in largest democracy in the world. He highlighted how the world's largest democracy conducted its lengthy elections with EVMs, announced results, and transferred power smoothly without any allegations of fraud.
"Why can't we achieve the same?," he asked.
"I want to quote the example of our enemy country, they just concluded elections. More than 800 million people cast their vote. They had set up thousands of polling stations. They even made a polling station for a single person. Nobody said the election was rigged. We also want to be in the same league. In our country, nobody agrees. This is damaging our election system."

Pakistan Byelections Rigged

By-elections were held on February 8 to 21 national and provincial assembly seats amidst tight security and suspension of cellular and internet services in specific districts of Punjab and Balochistan to maintain law and order. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif-led ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) won at least two national and 10 provincial assembly seats, according to the unofficial results on Monday.
Leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) said that April 21 will be remembered as a “black day” in the history of Pakistan, as "open and blatant violations of law" of a magnitude never observed in the country's history were witnessed.

India Conducts Successful Polls

Meanwhile, National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leader Narendra Modi secured a historic third term as the Prime Minister of India as the alliance managed to cross the majority mark, bagging 303 seats in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections. The elections, touted as the biggest in the entire world, set an example across the globe with a whopping 65.79% voter turnout.
After counting of votes concluded and election results were declared on June 4, the BJP emerged as the largest single party with 240 Lok Sabha seats, just falling 32 seats short of the majority mark. With NDA partners- TDP and JDU's 28 seats, and support from other allies in the coalition, the NDA had surpassed the required majority of 272, making the tally 292. After the new support from small parties and independent candidates, the BJP-led NDA now stands '300 paar'.
