The community in Windsor is mourning the demise of James Edward “Ted” Farron. The local business owner of Farron’s Gourmet Butcher passed away at the age of 83, informed his family on Saturday. Ted is remembered for his ever-lasting smile and his attitude of giving back to society either through donations or public welfare programs.
Ted retired very recently and handed over the business to his associates after a 35-year-long stint. He had humble beginnings, and as per a report by CTV News, it encouraged him further to help the people around him. Among his most notable contributions to society include how he once coached Boxer Mary Spencer, who went on to reach to Olympics level and won three World Championships for Canada.
The outlet described Ted as a "community booster," whose smile could light any room in Windsor. “His only expression is a smile. And I've seen him towards the end of his journey. And never anything but a smile,” CTV News quoted Eric Farron, one of Ted’s six children, as saying.

Ted, apart from being known in the Boxing circles, organised fundraisers in Ontario's Windsor. He also assisted The Hospice of Windsor-Essex, Easter Seals, the Downtown Mission, and encouraged youth to be part of Camp Brombal.
“He just really, really enjoyed being around people and helping to make things better,” Eric told the outlet.
According to Eric, once a youth won a bike in one of Camp Brombal's events prompting Ted to root for others to win bikes as well. St. Clair College awarded Farron an honorary diploma in culinary management in 2021.
Apart from serving six years on the college’s Board of Governors, Ted was honoured by the Windsor Professional Firefighters Association by making him a member. He became one of only four civilians in Ontario's city to achieve the feat.
