Hunter Biden, President Joe Biden's son, was indicted Thursday on federal gun charges. The 53-year-old is accused of lying about his drug use when he purchased a firearm in October 2018.
The First Son acknowledged that he was struggling with crack cocaine addiction, as per the indictment filed in Delaware federal court.
Federal prosecutors, led by special counsel David Weiss, have charged Hunter with three crimes - two counts for alleged false statements while buying the gun and the third for possessing the firearm while being addicted to drugs.
Hunter had purchased a Colt Cobra revolver from a Delaware gun shop. He lied on a federal form when he swore that he was not on any illegal drugs.
President Joe Biden’s son has also been under investigation for his business dealings. A counsel is overseeing the case has charged him for failure to pay taxes on time.
"Now that Hunter Biden has been indicted how many mins till Biden's corrupt DOJ drops another Trump indictment to change the narrative? It's nice to see something happen, though this is likely the excuse DOJ will use to pretend they're fair when they give him slap on the wrist!" Donald Trump Jr tweeted.
The two most serious counts carry maximum sentences of 10 years in prison and $250,000 fines. The White House and an attorney for Hunter Biden have not responded to the indictment yet. The trial for a federal indictment should begin within 70 days. However, a dats has not been set.
