Ranchi: Twenty-four-year-old Md Ali Hussain, who left his family and said his goodbyes 18 days ago, was killed in the deadly fire that broke out in Kuwait. Hussain's family, who reside in Hindpiri in Ranchi, were devasted after they received the news of his death from his colleagues in Kuwait.
Hussain, who is the youngest of three siblings, went to Kuwait to support his family, according to his father Mubarak Hussain, 57, who runs a small business involving tyres in Ranchi.
"This was the first time that he stepped out of the country. He told us that he got a job as a salesman there. We never expected such a devastating incident would take place in a matter of 18 days," Mubarak told PTI.
His son's colleagues informed Hussain's father about his demise.
"My son was pursuing a certified management accountant (CMA) course after graduation. One day, he suddenly said he would go to Kuwait," Mubarak said. "My only wish from the Government of India is to make arrangements for bringing Hussain's body back to Ranchi."
A fire broke out in a building in the southern city of Mangaf on Wednesday that killed 49 foreign workers, including at least 40 Indians. 50 others were injured in the fire that broke out in the seven-storied building. The majority of deaths were due to smoke inhalation, Kuwaiti media reported.
The building was rented for accommodation by the construction firm NBTC group. More 195 workers, most of them Indians from Kerala, Tamil Nadu and northern states resided in the building, according to Kuwaiti media.
Times Now accessed details of multiple violations at the building in Kuwait's Mangaf. The apartment reportedly housed tenants more than its prescribed capacity. Moreover, the residents lived in very poor conditions. The building exits were reportedly not wide enough for all the workers to rush out when the fire took place, resulting in a large number of casualties.
