Update: Police said an armed individual wearing a mask attempted to rob a casino cashier and took one male hostage. He apparently fled through the backdoor. Several social media users posted an audio clip, where a woman - likely an officer - can be heard informing that there is a hostage situation in the Hollywood Casino. The suspect is described as a man wearing a jacket and a mask. He has reportedly taken one male as hostage.
Videos posted on X, platform formerly known as Twitter, showed panic in the area. Emergency sirens can be heard in the background as people inside the casino run for shelter. Local reporters from the scene say a manhunt is underway.
"Spoke with someone outside who is waiting for their father, who tells them they are locked down inside," Andrew Rowan of WCPO tweeted.
"I'm seeing various reports from the Hollywood Casino in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. an alert on the Citizen app was issued in that area for a report of an 'active shooter,' So far, no word on what exactly happened," another person added.
" There have been reports of an active shooter at the Hollywood Casino in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, causing crowds of people to flee and seek shelter," a third one tweeted.
The Lawrenceburg Police Department has not released any details about the situation.
