Joe Biden's 'Garbage' Remark Might Have Recycled Trump's Campaign
Former President Donald Trump mocked President Joe Biden's recent "garbage" comment about his supporters, wearing a garbage man's vest at a Wisconsin rally. Biden's remark, made during a Voto Latino event, compared Trump supporters to "floating garbage," drawing backlash similar to Hillary Clinton’s "basket of deplorables" controversy.

Former President Donald Trump on Wednesday wore a garbage man’s vest and rode a trash truck to a campaign event in Wisconsin. "How do you like my garbage truck?" he asked reporters. "This truck is in honor of Kamala and Joe Biden." The Republican nominee’s latest stunt was a dig at his successor Biden’s "garbage" remark, which sparked significant backlash.
Biden had apparently compared Trump’s supporters to "garbage" during a virtual Harris campaign call with Voto Latino. The president was reacting to comedian Tony Hinchcliffe’s racist joke, calling Puerto Rico a "floating island of garbage."
During the virtual call, Biden took a swipe at Trump’s weekend rally at Madison Square Garden, which made headlines after insult comedian Tony Hinchcliffe mocked various ethnic groups, with one joke referring to Puerto Rico as a "floating island of garbage."
"The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters," Biden said. "His demonization of Latinos is unconscionable and un-American."
After the comment received backlash from Trump supporters and Republicans, the White House issued a clarification. "He has said multiple times that he is a president for all. It doesn’t matter if you live in a red state or a blue state," Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated.
However, the damage may already have been done. Biden’s comments drew comparisons to then-Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s remark in 2016 that half of Trump’s supporters should be "put into a basket of deplorables" because of their "racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic" views.
On Wednesday morning, Harris appeared to distance herself from the controversy surrounding her boss. “Listen, I think, first of all, he clarified his comments, but let me be clear: I strongly disagree with any criticism of people based on who they vote for. You heard my speech last night, and throughout my career, I have continuously said that the work I do is about representing all people, whether they support me or not."
Now, it seems Trump has already converted Biden’s gaffe into a campaign stunt. He showed up in a garbage man’s vest, slamming the Democrat for his comment.
And the focus shifted—from Tony Hinchcliffe to Joe Biden.
