The company plans to expand its charging station network globally, working towards more than 2,000 stations and 10,000 fast-charging points by the end of the decade.
Collaborating with E.ON, a prominent energy and mobility expert, Mercedes-Benz seeks support in the site selection, planning, construction, operation, and additional services for its charging hubs. The Mannheim location focuses on practicality, offering ample parking space and a drive-through option for larger vehicles.
Integrated with the Mercedes me Charge digital network, the charging hubs provide users with real-time information on charging point locations and availability. The charging infrastructure aligns with Mercedes-Benz's broader strategy for electrification, including involvement in joint ventures and collaborations to expand fast-charging networks globally.
Commenting on the occasion Franz Reiner, CEO Mercedes-Benz Mobility AG said, “The opening of the first Mercedes-Benz Charging Hub in Germany is an important step on our way to emission-free driving. By expanding the fast-charging infrastructure, we are making it easier for our customers to switch to electric mobility and at the same time setting new standards in electric vehicle charging”.
This new charging hub in Europe will support Mercedes-Benz EVs like EQA, EQB, EQE and EQS and plug-in hybrid vehicles like the C-Class, S-Class and GLC.
Commenting on the occasion Patrick Lammers, Member of the Board of Management of E.ON said, “The partnership with Mercedes-Benz is a milestone on this path: By setting up high-power charging stations in Europe, we are jointly making an important contribution to decarbonisation”.
