Indian Railways To Introduce High-Speed Trains: Bids Invited For Trainsets Capable Of 250 km/h (Representational Image)

New Delhi: The Ministry of Railways has invited bids to design and manufacture two new trainsets that will be capable of running at speeds of 250 km/h. This is a significant step towards upgrading India's rail network with faster trains. In June, Indian Railways had written to the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai, asking them to manufacture two trainsets, each with eight coaches. These trains will be made of steel, with a maximum speed of 250 km/h and a regular operating speed of 220 km/h.

Which Is The Top Speed Train At Present?

Currently, the fastest train in India, the Vande Bharat Express, runs at a top speed of 160 km/h and offers a superior travel experience with better facilities compared to the Shatabdi Express.
Earlier this month, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw flagged off India’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper trainset from BEML's Bangalore rail complex. This train is equipped with world-class features such as USB charging ports, public announcement systems, security cameras, and specially designed berths and toilets for differently-abled passengers. The 1st AC coach also includes showers with hot water for added passenger comfort.
The Vande Bharat Sleeper train has been engineered with modern features and a focus on both design and functionality, from its sleek front nose cone to comfortable sleeper berths. BEML has overseen the integration of critical systems like electrical, propulsion, and braking, ensuring the train operates smoothly at 160 km/h.
This sleeper version of Vande Bharat is an upgrade that offers a more comfortable and high-tech travel experience for passengers.
