On Friday, the investors saw a significant surge in wealth as Indian markets performance, propelling the BSE Sensex to remarkable heights. The benchmark index surged by 1,245 points, a 1.72 percent increase and settling at an all-time high closing of 73,745.35. Throughout the trading day, the Sensex soared to reach a peak of 73,819.21 points
The collective market capitalisation of BSE-listed companies witnessed an extraordinary surge of Rs 4,29,339.75 crore, reaching a monumental figure of Rs 3,92,25,029.98 crore (USD 4.78 trillion).
This remarkable market performance was attributed to India's resilient GDP growth in the third quarter of 2023, surpassing expectations with an impressive 8.4 percent expansion the fastest in one-and-a-half years.
Leading the charge were heavyweight stocks such as Reliance Industries, Tata Steel, and banking stocks, contributing significantly to the market rally. Tata Steel saw a notable surge of 6.46 percent, followed by JSW Steel climbing 4.46 percent. Other major gainers included Larsen & Toubro, Titan, IndusInd Bank, ICICI Bank, Maruti, and Tata Motors.
However, not all sectors witnessed gains, with HCL Technologies, Infosys, and Tech Mahindra experiencing relatively slower growth.
The positive momentum extended beyond India's borders, with Asian markets in Tokyo, Shanghai, and Hong Kong closing with gains. Similarly, European markets traded positively, while the US markets closed in the green on the preceding Thursday.
According to the exchange data, the Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) turned into net buyers on Thursday as they purchased equities worth Rs 3,568.11 crore.
