Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) minister Atishi on Tuesday accused the neighbouring state Haryana of lying about releasing water to the national capital. Delhi has been facing serious heatwave conditions for the past few weeks. Due to this unbearable heatwave, the consumption and requirement of water among the residents have increased.
Addressing this issue, the AAP minister held a press briefing and accused the Haryana government of not releasing a fair amount of water to the national capital.
The amount of water that Haryana is supposed to release for Delhi through Wazirabad Barrage, or Munak Canal is still on hold and Delhi is not receiving its fair share of water. She further claimed that Delhi's water treatment plants were unable to work at full capacity because of this reason.
The AAP minister repeatedly accused the Haryana government of lying about releasing Delhi's share of water. She said that the Delhi government went to the Supreme Court regarding this matter and the Himachal government was ready to provide water as per Delhi's requirement. This water was supposed to come to Delhi through Haryana but the neighbouring state opposed it, she claimed.
She also said that Haryana's lies were revealed in the affidavit which they filed at the Supreme Court. “The affidavit released by the Haryana government shows that from May 1 to May 22, they have released 719 cusecs for CLC (carrier line channel) and 330 cusecs in DSB (Delhi sub-branch), as per the affidavit submitted in Supreme Court," she alleged.
Referring to the statistics, she said, the amount of water released by Haryana started decreasing from May 23, from 719 cusecs for CLC and 330 cusecs in DSB to 675 cusecs and 283 cusecs respectively.
She also claimed, “When the Supreme Court intervened in the Delhi water crisis and asked Haryana to pass the water released from Himachal Pradesh, Haryana reduced releasing water from the Munak Canal. According to Haryana’s statistics, from June 7- June 10 they have only released 675 cusecs of water instead of 719 cusecs in CLC. In DSB, instead of releasing 330 cusecs of water the Haryana government only released 310 cusecs according to the statistics. As a result, instead of releasing 1050 cusecs of water, the Haryana government is only releasing 985 cusecs of water.”
This has led to a shortage of water in the National capital along with less water production in the city, causing problems for the residents, AAP Minister Atishi claimed.
Atishi Hits Out At LG VK Saxena
Not only this, the minister also lashed out at LG VK Saxena for lying on the entire matter and said that he should serve the people of Delhi and not the "BJP office".
According to Atishi, Delhi lieutenant governor VK Saxena assured that he would talk to the Haryana government to ensure Delhi’s share of 1,050 cusecs water is released in the Munak Canal. The lieutenant governor claimed that the Munak canal needed repair work and accused the Delhi government of no maintenance and leakage in the canal. Atishi addressed this claim and denied it by saying that the maintenance of Munak Canal comes under the Haryana Government and if there is any repair work to be done there, then it comes under the responsibility of the Haryana Government.
The AAP Minister further concluded by saying “In Delhi, water is getting less at the entry point itself. If water is being stolen from the tanker, then it is happening in Haryana only.”
