Hyderabad: The city is having a surge in demands for eco-friendly living spaces. With the growing aspirations of green buildings, developers are also gearing up to supply the same. They are focusing on individuals who have energy efficiency and reduced carbon footprints on priority. Having said that, a total of 75,000 buildings are anticipated to come up over the next two years. However, the prices of buildings with such demands are also likely to be high.
As of now, Hyderabad has 246 residential green building projects. Developers are also focusing on this type of building planning after observing the rising temperature during summer. In addition to that, the officials have been receiving a number of demands for fresh air and open spaces in living areas. To cater to these needs, the developers are exploring as well as expanding their green building offerings.
There is a limited availability of ready-to-move in green housing units, which highlights the willingness among homebuyers to look for residential spaces that are eco-friendly. It also should be noted that even advance bookings for such projects are underway for under-construction projects set to be completed by year 2026, which also stresses upon the rising demands, reported Times of India.
A businessman, Surendra Babu, who is looking for a good green building, said, “I was looking for such a building in the budget of Rs 1.5 Crore around the IT Corridor. On the other hand, the developers are quoting Rs 2 Crore to Rs 4 crore, which is unaffordable,” quoted by the media report.
The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) has set a criteria for a structure to be certified as a green building. It focuses on energy efficiency, sustainability, environmental quality and water conservation.
Such buildings optimise their envelopes to mitigate heat and incorporate cool roof designs. It results in energy consumption savings of 20-30 per cent.
