Amid multiple terror attacks in a week, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday reviewed the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The Union Home Minister held a meeting with top security brass. Notably, four terror attacks were carried out by cross-border terrorists in the Union territory in the past five days. The Union Home Minister held a meeting with top security brass.
The Union Home Minister will also chair another detailed routine meeting on June 16 on Jammu and Kashmir security situation, in presence of Jammu and Kasmir LG, National Security Advisor among other key officials of Army, MHA and the erstwhile state.
Earlier on Thursday, the Prime Minister chaired a review meeting to take stock of the current situation in Jammu and Kashmir. National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval and other officials were also present at the meeting. The PM was given a full overview of the security-related situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
PM Modi was apprised of the counter-terror efforts being undertaken. PM Modi asked them to deploy the full spectrum of our counter-terror capabilities. The Prime Minister also spoke to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and discussed the deployment of security forces and counter-terror operations.
The PM also discussed the situation with Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and took stock of the situation. PM Modi was briefed on the efforts being undertaken by the local administration.
On Wednesday, a fresh encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in Jammu's Doda district. It was the fourth terror attack in the union territory since Sunday.
On Sunday, June 9, terrorists attacked a bus carrying pilgrims in the Ransu area of Reasi district in Jammu and Kashmir. At least 10 people were killed in the attack. The vehicle, transporting passengers from Katra to the Shiv Khori shrine, was targeted by terrorists, causing it to fall into a gorge. Reports indicate that terrorists opened fire, hitting the bus tyre and causing the fatal accident.
On Tuesday two encounters broke out in Dodada and Kathua districts. In the Doda encounter that broke out on Tuesday, five soldiers and a special police officer (SPO) were injured after terrorists attacked an Army post. Meanwhile, in Kathua, two terrorists were eliminated. However, one Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) soldier was killed in the Kathua gunfight.
