Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant pre-wedding cruise sets sail from Italy to France

In March Jamnagar was abuzz with the pre-wedding activities of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant, and come June, their family is taking the party to Europe in a 3-day event on a luxury cruise that will carry 800 of their closest friends and family on a 4,380-kilometre journey that begins in Italy on May 29th and ends in Southern France on June 1st.
The invite aptly reads ‘La Vite E Un Viaggio’ meaning ‘life is a journey’, and what a journey this private event is going to be! Over the course of the trip, the guests will enjoy 9 events, each with its own theme and set to be catered to by the 600-strong hospitality staff who will be whipping up a feast. The menu is set to cover all the couple’s favourite dishes from Indian cuisine including North Indian, Gujarati and Parsi delicacies as well as a selection that pays homage to their trip with French and Italian specialities as well.

The guestlist is already promising to be a star-studded one, with Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Salman Khan having already departed for the four-day celebration. Other celebrities anticipated to attend include Ranveer Singh, Aamir Khan, and Shah Rukh Khan, along with their families. In an effort to protect the privacy of the couple and attendees, phones and guest photography are strictly banned at all events, so unfortunately we’ll have to wait for them to drop anchor before we learn exactly what was on the menu. But until then, here are a few classic Italian and French dishes which we think will be served.

Panelle

The trip kicks off in Palermo and one of the local specialities of this Sicilian city are these fried chickpea flour fritters that are sometimes stuffed inside a bun and eaten as a street food. To Indians, this concept of ‘everything in pav’ will be all too familiar as will our household staple ingredient of chickpea flour (besan) so we hope they’ll add it to the lineup.

Pasta alla Norma

Who can visit Italy and not try the pasta? The primary ingredients of Pasta alla Norma which is a speciality of Sicily include sauteed eggplants, a rich tomato sauce, basil and ricotta salata cheese on top. The dish is typically prepared with a type of short pasta, such as rigatoni or penne, though spaghetti or other varieties can also be used. It's a pasta dish with subtle flavours that reflect Sicilian cuisine.

Cannoli

No party is complete without sweet treats and Cannoli are one of the most famous Sicilian desserts, originating from Palermo. These are tube-shaped shells of fried pastry dough, filled with a sweet, creamy filling typically made from ricotta cheese. The ends of the cannoli are often garnished with chopped pistachios, candied fruit, or chocolate chips.

Carciofi alla Romana

Though pizza and pasta are the staples of menus in Rome, one of the more refined dishes the city is known for is this Roman-style artichoke dish. The artichokes are braised in a simple mixture of olive oil, white wine, garlic, and fresh herbs such as mint and parsley until tender. It’s a classic spring and summer dish which would perfectly match the weather when they stop in Rome.

Ratatouille

Cannes is part of the Provence region of Southern France which is known for its rustic and farm-style dishes. Ratatouille has become a global phenomenon and features a medley of seasonal vegetables such as aubergines, courgettes, bell peppers, tomatoes, onions, and garlic, all layered together in olive oil with a bouquet of fresh herbs like thyme, rosemary, and basil. It's a quintessential summer dish that’s you can’t miss in Cannes.
