Pune: Pregnant woman hit by car

Pune: The city police has arrested the man who had hit a 32-year-old pregnant woman and then fled the spot. The incident, that took place in Nighoje on Saturday, was captured on a nearby CCTV camera. The woman is seen walking on the side of the road when the car hits her throwing her into air. The car then moves away as if nothing happened.
Following the accident, the bystanders rush to save the five-month pregnant woman. According to a TOI report, the woman survived the impact but suffered injuries on her head, back and face. Police said the foetus is safe.
The cops said that the driver was later arrested and his medical test revealed that he was under the influence of alcohol when the incident took place. "The medical test of the arrested driver, identified as Roshan Yelwande (23) of Nighoje, also revealed alcohol content in his blood," Assistant sub-inspector, Ashok Jaybhay of the Mhalunge police told TOI.
"We are invoking charges of drunk driving against him and have already registered a case under sections 279 (rash and negligent driving), 337 and 338 (both related to an act endangering human life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), as well as Section 184 (driving in a manner that endangers the public) of the Motor Vehicles Act against the arrested man," he added.
Police said that during initial round of questioning, the accused said he did not wait at the accident site as he feared a thrashing from bystanders. "Some of the eyewitnesses had noted down the car’s registration number as it drove off from the location, which helped us track the driver down," the officer added, quoted TOI.
"Yelwande was driving his brother’s car at the time. We have seized the vehicle," Jaybhay said.

What Did Woman Say In Her Complaint

Meanwhile, the woman also lodged a complaint with the police in which she said that she was walking along the road on Saturday evening to visit their new bungalow site located along Dehu Road-Nighoje Road. "While she was walking, a hatchback car coming towards Nighoje knocked her down. The woman was flung into the air due to the impact and fell on the road," Jaybhay said citing the complaint, the report added.
He added that Yelwande did not stop after the accident, however, the locals gathered at the spot and alerted the victim’s husband. She was then taken to a hospital in Dehugaon and later was shifted to a hospital in Baner.
