Sony is gearing up for the much-anticipated launch of its latest gaming console, the PlayStation 5 Slim, in India, set to hit the shelves on April 5. This new iteration of the PlayStation 5 promises the same powerful hardware performance but comes with enhanced storage options.
The PlayStation 5 Slim will be available in two versions: one with a disc drive and another without. What sets the Slim apart is its more compact form factor, requiring approximately 30% less space and boasting a weight reduction of 25% compared to the standard version.
Despite its smaller size, the Slim edition doesn't compromise on storage capacity, offering a generous 1TB of internal storage. Additionally, users have the option to expand storage using external SSDs. Initially unveiled in October of the previous year, the PlayStation 5 Slim was initially exclusive to the United States market.
In terms of aesthetics, the PlayStation 5 Slim retains the sleek design of its predecessor, with the main differentiator being the number of side plates. While the standard PlayStation 5 features two side plates, the Slim version comes equipped with four.
One of these extra plates is specifically designed to accommodate the detachable Blu-ray disc drive, providing users with flexibility in their choice of console configuration. Another notable difference lies in the port configuration: the original model includes one USB-C and one USB-A port, whereas the Slim version offers two USB-C ports conveniently located on the front panel for enhanced accessibility.
While the PlayStation 5 Slim shares many similarities with its predecessor, such as its overall appearance and performance capabilities, it introduces subtle enhancements aimed at improving user experience and convenience. However, Sony has yet to provide details regarding the availability of additional accessories, such as side panels for converting the disc-less variant to include a disc drive.
As for pricing, the PlayStation 5 Slim with a disc drive is set at Rs 54,990, while the disc-less Digital Edition is priced slightly lower at Rs 44,990. Both variants will be available for purchase through both online and offline retailers across India.
