Ottawa: After India and China, the Canadian government has listed Pakistan as one of the countries involved in foreign interference. As per the latest reports, Pakistan has been added to the list of countries that allegedly interfered in Canada's election process.
As per a document prepared by a task force under Canada’s Security and Intelligence Threats to Elections, China has been raised as a "principal concern" with regard to election interference. As accessed by National Post, the document stated that "challenges remain" in dealing with other accused countries, including Pakistan.
As per National Post, this is one of the first times a Canadian government document has named Pakistan as a potential source of foreign interference.
In the documents submitted to the Public Inquiry into Foreign Interference in Federal Electoral Processes and Democratic Institutions, headed by Justice Marie-Josee Hogue, SITE has stated that there has been improvement in dealing with foreign interference, but challenges remain for the allegations against China, Russia, Iran, India and Pakistan.

China's Interference 'Primary' Concern For Canada

In its report, SITE has stated that China is "highly capable and motivated against Canada, and acts in a sophisticated, pervasive and persistent manner in carrying out Fl activities".
With regards to India and Russia, the document states that these countries have "not yet demonstrated a significant threat to the election process.”
However, as far as India is concerned, officials from New Delhi have acted against Canadian politicians, community members and democratic processes to "perceive a positive image of their home country". Along with this, India continues to counter "perceived threats to India" from within Canada.
For Russia, SITE stated that Russia could be engaged in foreign interference activities in Canada, but when the briefing note was issued, there was no indication of Russian interference. SITE noted that Russian interference is generally focused on "cyber capabilities, discrediting democratic institutions and disinformation".
