Who Was Chirag Antil?

A 24-year-old student from India, Chirag Antil was shot dead in a vehicle in Canada’蝉 South Vancouver. His family is using the crowdfunding platform GoFundMe to raise funds to bring his body back to India for repatriation, local media reported.
Chirag relocated to Vancouver in September 2022 after completing his MBA at University Canada West. He had also recently received his work permit.
Romit Antil, his brother from Haryana’蝉 Sonipat, told CityNews that Chirag was a kind-hearted person. “My brother and I had a great relationship, we used to talk every day, day and night. I spoke to him last before the accident happened. He was kind of happy, he never had any issues or fights with anyone, ever. He was an extremely polite person,” he told the media outlet.
The victim’蝉 brother further said that their family in India was alerted by Chirag's roommate when he heard gunshots near their residence. Soon after, they received an email from the Vancouver Police Department.
Romit said that his brother was a humanitarian and would not do anything immoral. “He always spoke to everyone with respect, never raised his voice. He didn’t have anything to do with anyone. If he fought with anyone, we would probably know that he had problems,” he said.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Varun Choudhary, Congress students' wing National Students' Union of India president urged the Ministry of External Affairs to closely monitor the situation and the progress of the investigation.
In another incident recently, a 25-year-old Indian student, Mohammed Abdul Arfath, who had been missing in the United States since last month, was found dead in Ohio’蝉 Cleveland, according to the Indian embassy in New York. Arfath moved to the United States in 2023 for a Master's degree at Cleveland State University. He had been missing for nearly three weeks.
