Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who is hosting a two-day summit, greeted United Kingdom Prime Minister Rishi Sunak with a warm hug at the welcome ceremony of the G7 summit. The two leaders engaged in a brief interaction as they both giggled and exchanged a few words.
World leaders including US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau among others, arrived in Italy for the 50th Summit of the Group of Seven (G7), scheduled for June 13 and 14.
Videos showed Meloni and Sunak beaming as they warmly greeting each other at the summit in Puglia under the canopy of an olive tree. Sunak and Meloni's friendship has reportedly flourished since they took office in 2022 within days of one another, with the British Prime Minister's spokesperson saying in December they 'obviously get on'.

Meloni's 'Namaste' Gesture Wins Internet

Earlier today, several videos showed Meloni greeting leaders with folded hands, with internet saying the leader is now preferring 'Namaste' over a handshake. In one such video, the Italian PM can be seen greeting European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen with a 'Namaste'.
She was also seen greeting German Chancellor Olaf Scholz with Namaste during G7 Summit. Despite their political differences, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Meloni appeared to share a joke together as the Italian leader welcomed her German counterpart today.

PM Modi To Attends G-7 Summit

The G7 summit opened today with an agreement on a US proposal to back a ?39 billion loan to Ukraine using frozen Russian assets as collateral, giving Kyiv a strong show of support even as Europe's political chessboard shifts to the right.
Diplomats confirmed an agreement had been reached on the deal before the leaders even landed for the three-day gathering.
PM Modi, who left for Italy today, is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Meloni. This will be PM Modi's first overseas visit since he took oath as Prime Minister for the third straight term on Thursday and he is expected to be in Italy for 24 hours.
PM Modi, accompanied by a high-level delegation, will attend an outreach session on the summit on June 14. The session will be focused on issues relating to artificial intelligence, energy, Africa and the Mediterranean.
Notably, the G7 includes Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States. Host Italy has invited several African leaders - Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Kenyan President William Ruto and Tunisian President Kais Saied - to press Italy's Africa initiatives. Other guests include Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, fresh off his own election, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
India has been invited to the G7 Summit as an outreach country. This will be PM Modi's first overseas visit on Thursday since he took oath as Prime Minister for the third straight term and he is expected to be in Italy for 24 hours.
Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra said, "This will afford him an opportunity to engage with other world leaders present at the G7 Summit on issues of importance to India, as also to the Global South. This will be India's 11th participation in G7 Summit and Prime Minister Modi's fifth consecutive participation at the G7 Summit."
