An explosion was reportedly heard in Babylon Governorate, a province situated south of Baghdad in Iraq, according to Rudaw Media Network. The reported "bombing" is said to have targeted Forward Operating Base Kalsu, also known as 'FOB Kalsu,' which serves as a military base utilized by Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces.
Times Now cannot independently verify the footage at this time.
According to local reports, several members of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) and Iraqi Security Forces were wounded. They are currently being treated at the Al-Mahawil General Hospital in the Babylon Governorate.
The Popular Mobilization Forces issued a statement, confirming the explosion.
"An explosion occurred at the headquarters of the Popular Mobilization Forces at the Kalsu military base in the Al-Mashrou district on the highway, north of Babil Governorate," it said.
"An investigation team immediately arrived at the scene, and the explosion caused material losses and injuries. We will provide you with the details once the preliminary investigation is completed."
Reuters, citing two sources, reported that one PMF fighter was killed and six were wounded in the explosion.
Some Iraqi reports hinted at United States' involvement in the explosion. The US military issued a statement, refuting these claims.
"We are aware of reports claiming that the United States conducted airstrikes in Iraq today. Those reports are not true. The United States has not conducted air strikes in Iraq today," US Central Command clarified in a post on X.
CNN reported that an Israeli official also confirmed they were not involved.
