Jerusalem: The families and relatives of hostages in Gaza will be carrying out a march calling for their urgent release. The families will be marching from Kibbutz Re’im, a community on the Gaza border all the way to the capital city of Jerusalem.
The first stop of the march will be the police station at Sderot. at 4:30 PM local time, the relatives will hold a solidarity ceremony at the police station to commemorate the lives lost on October 7.
Around 35 officers and civilians present at the police station during the Hamas attack were killed. From Sderot, the group will then march towards Kiryat Gat, where they will spend the first night.
As per Times of Israel, the march will then move towards Beit Gurvin and Beit Shemesh on Thursday. By Saturday the families are expected to reach Jerusalem, where they will demand the urgent release of the remaining hostages in Gaza.
As per reports, around 136 hostages are still being held captive in Gaza by Hamas. Of these 136, around 30 have been assumed dead.
With the Israel-Hamas war entering Day 145, mediator countries - Egypt, Qatar and the United States are hopeful for a truce between the two rival parties. This truce would lead to the release of all remaining hostages in Gaza - dead or alive.
However, Israel has continued to push for its onslaught in Gaza. moving towards the southern city of Rafah - which is the last refuge for Palestinians who fled during the first phase of the war.
On October 7, around 250 hostages were taken by Hamas back into Gaza. Of these, around 110 were released during the weeklong truce in November.
As per the IDF, three hostages were been rescued by troops and the bodies of 11 hostages have also been recovered. These bodies include the three hostages who were mistakenly killed by the Israeli military.
