Paris: Israel is mulling over a weeks-long ceasefire deal in Gaza. Israeli media reported that progress had been made in talks in Paris on late Saturday. However, there is no official statement from the Israeli government.
Notably, Israel's War Cabinet on Saturday met to discuss the proposal. Several Israeli media outlets claimed quoting sources that the ceasefire deal and the return of hostages.
The further negotiations will take place in Qatar. The ceasefire between Israel and Hama is likely to be materialised before March 10, days ahead of the commencement of the holy month of Ramzan, said reports.
However, Hamas said that it was involved in the latest proposal developed by the United States, Egypt and Qatar. The terrorist group, however, stated that its demands were the same which were for the first phase of the ceasefire.
Meanwhile, Israel is also developing plans for expanding its offensive to the southernmost city of Rafah, on the Gaza-Egypt border, reported The Associated Press. Notably, around 2.3 million refugees have sought shelter in camps at the crossing.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had reportedly said that he would convene the Cabinet to "approve the operational plans for action in Rafah", including the evacuation of civilians. Hamas said that it would not release the remaining Israeli hostages until Israel stops offensive in Gaza.
A senior official from Egypt on the condition of anonymity told the media house that the draft cease-fire deal includes the release of up to 40 women and older hostages in return for up to 300 Palestinian prisoners. Notably, Egypt and Qatar are mediating between Israel and Hamas.
Israel declared war after the October 7 Hamas attack on southern Israel by Hamas. In the attack by Hamasarond 1,200 people were killed. Meanwhile, the health ministry in Gaza claimed that close to 30,000 people were killed in the offensive by Israel.
