Two teenage boys encountered difficulties in the River Tyne near Ovingham Bridge, Northumberland, prompting emergency services to carry out an extensive search operation. The incident took place at around 3:30 p.m. BST on Saturday. Local authorities were quick to arrive at the scene.
Multiple agencies, including ambulance, police, fire, and rescue crews, have been deployed to the scene to aid in search and rescue. Moreover, the Great North Air Ambulance Service has also been enlisted for support.
Following reports of individuals in distress, the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) dispatched its Hazardous Area Response Team and other medical personnel to the river. Meanwhile, the Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service quickly dispatched their highly-skilled Swift Water Rescue Units from Pegswood to lend a hand in the rescue mission.
As the search operations continue, authorities have currently imposed road closures stretching from Riverside Road in Wylam to Ovingham Bridge. The goal is to divert traffic away from the area. Officials have urged the public to refrain from gathering in the area, so as to avoid impeding the ongoing rescue operations.

The spokesperson drew attention to the importance of allowing space for the responders to carry out their duties effectively.
As of now, authorities are investigating details surrounding the teenager’s difficulties in the water, and anyone with relevant information is urged to come forward. The situation is being monitored closely, and updates are to roll out as the search operation goes on.
