During the peak election season, US President Joe Biden is planning to bring a new executive order that is aimed at capping daily border crossing, as per a news report. The 81-year-old Democratic leader, who often gets criticised for the open border policy, is expected to sign the new rule that applies to the country's borders it shares with Mexico. If the federal government moves ahead with it, the POTUS is going to assume power to close the entry of immigrants if the daily crossings limit reaches 4,000.
According to the report by the New York Post, the Biden administration is attempting to come forward with an executive order that is similar to the contentious border bill that failed to become a law. The Senate Border Security Bill struggled to pass through due to differences among Republican and Democrat lawmakers in February. Notably, the bill had assumed a similar power bestowed on the POTUS to expel illegal immigrants.
The Homeland Security Secretary was assumed to be in charge of border affairs in the old border security bill. To carry out removals through mandatory deportations the border crossing threshold was set at 5,000 per day over a one-week period.
The report further informed that it was not clear when the Biden Administration was planning to bring the order, based on the outlet's sources within the federal government. The US has headed towards another presidential polls in November later this year and the incumbent leader often has to face criticism for what has been described as weak border control laws. Over 10,000 migrants are currently being held by the US Border Patrol at different sites, according to internal Customs and Border Protection statistics that The New York Post claimed it recently received.
Several of the countries' Border Patrol sectors exceeded their migrant holding capacity, with the San Diego region topping the list. The facility had ket 1,675 migrants as opposed to its capacity of 1,000 individuals.
