Noida: A gang of six, including two women, were arrested on Wednesday in Greater Noida for honey trapping people and then threatening them with false rape accusations to extort money.
The probe revealed that the gang ran a honey trap scheme and used female members to lure victims through phone calls into meeting them in person, a PTI report said. The gang then used to threaten their victims with false rape accusations and extorted money through intimidation and violence.
The police have identified the gang members as, gang leader, Raj Chaudhary, Bhupendra Singh, Faizan Ahmed, Rahul Kumar, Sanjana Yadav, and Rifa alias Rustam. Ashok Kumar Sharma, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Greater Noida said that these gang members used to lure gullible people. They used to convince people on phone to meet in person on the pretext of partying. These members assaulted the victims to illegally extort money from them.
The case came into the light after a Moradabad-based man Sameer (name changed) approached the local Beta 2 Police station with a complaint on Tuesday. A Police spokesperson explained that Sameer was lured by the gang through Rifa and called him to meet at Pi-3 sector roundabout. Upon reaching the place, Sameer along with his friends fell into the trap. Rifa alerted her fellow members that the victims had arrived. Later, rest of the gang members proceeded with their plan.
The gang demanded Rs 5 lakh from Sameer and his friends, threatening them to falsely accuse them of rape. Out of fear, Sameer gave Rs 50,000 that he had with him in the moment.
Following the incident, Sameer filed a complaint at Beta-2 Police Station and an FIR was registered under IPC sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 342 (wrongful confinement), 384 (extortion) and 120B (Criminal Conspiracy).
The police arrested the gang near Pari Chowk, and during interrogation, the gang admitted having committed a similar crime in the past near a farmhouse in Sector 135 Noida.
