As Daniel Radcliffe took home his first Tony Award for the Broadway musical Merrily We Roll Along, the 34-year-old couldn't help but be emotional. Radcliffe won the award for Featured Actor in a Musical for his portray of Charley Kringas.

Daniel Radcliffe's Acceptance Speech

Visibly moved, Radcliffe began his acceptance speech with a promise to speak quickly and avoid tears. "I’m going to talk fast and try not to cry," he said, addressing the audience at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City.
As Daniel Radcliffe spoke the camera captured the reaction of Jonathan Groff, his co-star who also seemed to be tearing up. Expressing his gratitude, Radcliffe "Thank you so much to our cast, everybody on that stage. It is an honour to be on stage with you every single night, and I will miss it so much."
Daniel Radcliffe also gave a shout-out to his co-stars Jonathan Groff, and Lindsay Mendez, whom he will miss working with. "I don’t really have to act in this show, I just have to look at you and feel everything I want to feel. I will never have it this good again," he added.
Talking about his win on Father's Day, Radcliffe honoured his father and his parents saying, "I love you both so much. Thank you for playing in the car and, you know, loving me." He also expressed his love for his wife Erin Dark, and their son saying, "My love, Erin, you and our son are the best that has ever happened to me. I love you so much. Thank you so much."

About Daniel Radcliffe's Career

At the age of 34, Daniel Radcliffe still remains widely recognized for his iconic portrayal of Harry Potter in all eight films of the series. However, he has boldly navigated his career with diverse choices on stage and screen, successfully transitioning from child star to esteemed adult actor. This Tony Award represents Radcliffe inaugural win and nomination for his role in a Broadway production, underscoring his enduring acclaim despite earlier achievements.
Talking about his career, Daniel Radcliffe, who has grappled with earning an identity away from his image as the bespectacled wizard from the Harry Potter series said, "When I finished the Harry Potter series, I had no idea what my career was going to be. I didn’t know what the future held. So I played Weird Al (Al Yankovic) and also did Merrily We Roll Along, which were very different. I portrayed Harry for a long time and it becomes a part of you, so I am trying to explore as many different roles as possible."
Daniel Radcliffe's prominent presence has been instrumental in revitalizing the success of this production, fundamentally reshaping the perception of Merrily We Roll Along, which initially struggled in its 1981 debut. He has been involved in the production since its Off-Broadway run at the New York Theater Workshop in 2022, continuing with the same role and co-stars. The Broadway rendition premiered last October and is scheduled to conclude on July 7.
