Ohio: A US sex worker who tested positive for HIV was allegedly engaged with over 200 clients despite having knowledge about her disease. The Ohio State officials have urged anyone who was involved in sexual activities with sex workers to conduct an HIV test after the truth was revealed.
Authorities are warning those involved in “risky business” with her to seek medical attention immediately, according to a report by the New York Post.
The 30-year-old Linda Leccesse, who is a sex worker by profession, was in contact with at least 211 clients from multiple states in the two years since January 1, 2022. The majority of Leccesse's clients were allegedly found on Market Street in Marietta, a small town in southeast Ohio close to the West Virginia border. Authorities however think that the possibly afflicted people may be dispersed over the East Coast.
“This case could stem anywhere from Florida up the East Coast, but there are local individuals that we will be reaching out to,” Washington County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Mark Warden said as per media reports.
Authorities have taken the initiative to reach out to Leccesse’s known clients to inform them of this situation. They are also encouraging others who may have had contact with her to reach out to the authorities.
“They’re not in trouble, this is public health awareness. This is not a scam,” Warden said.
“Marietta/Belpre Health Department is a judgement-free zone with full confidentiality. Anybody who may have been with Leccesse is asked to be ‘brutally honest’ with officials,” said Barbara Bradley, health department administrator. She further added that relatives of Leccesse’s clients and anybody who had sexual contact with them are also vulnerable to the “risky business.”
On May 13, Leccesse was taken into custody for soliciting sex on Market Street.
