House GOP's chief deputy whip Guy Reschenthale on Tuesday introduced a bill to rename Washington DC's Dulles's International airport after former president Donald Trump. Introduced Friday, the bill had six co-sponsors, as reported first by Fox News.
"In my lifetime, our nation has never been greater than under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump," Reschenthaler told Fox News. "As millions of domestic and international travelers fly through the airport, there is no better symbol of freedom, prosperity and strength than hearing ‘Welcome to Trump International Airport’ as they land on American soil."
Reschenthaler also made a post on X saying that he is introducing the bill as a tribute to Trump, whom he described as"the best president of my lifetime."
"Freedom. Prosperity. Strength. That's what America stood for under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump -- the best president of my lifetime. And that's why I'm introducing legislation to rename Dulles as the Donald J. Trump International Airport," the 40-year-old representative for Pennsylvania's 14th congressional district tweeted.
The six cosponsors of the bill were Chuck Fleischmann, Paul Gosar, Troy Nehls, Andy Ogles, Barry Moore and Mike Waltz.
Located 26 miles west of Washington, D.C., Dulles Airport was christened in honor of John Foster Dulles, the Secretary of State during President Dwight Eisenhower’s administration from 1953 to 1959. The airport was officially inaugurated by President John F. Kennedy in 1962 and was subsequently rebranded as Washington Dulles International Airport in 1984.
This airport is one of the three primary airports serving the region, along with Reagan Washington National Airport, also in Virginia as well, and Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, in Maryland.
