Maxwell Azzarello 7 Key Facts On Man Who Set Himself On Fire Outside Trump Trial
The man who set himself on fire at a park outside the Manhattan Criminal Court Friday has been identified by the NYPD as Maxwell Azzarello. An article allegedly written by Azzarello, 37, on the website 'The Ponzi Papers' describes him as an 'investigative researcher'. The NYPD said that he is from Florida.
Here are seven key facts about Maxwell Azzarello:
#1 Act Of Revolution
Maxwell Azzarello allegedly described his act Friday as an 'act of revolution'. In his article on the New York Post, Azzarello says that his "extreme act of protest" was prompted by an "important discovery," as he wanted to draw people's attention to it.
"We are victims of a totalitarian con, and our own government (along with many of their allies) is about to hit us with an apocalyptic fascist world coup," Azzarello wrote in the article.
#2 'True History Of The World' Manifesto
As Azzarello set himself on fire, he threw around pamphlets which were titled 'True History Of The World (Hunted Carnival Edition)'. According to reports, the pamphlets had links to his article on the website 'The Ponzi Papers' where he has detailed his findings as an 'investigative researcher.'
The pamphlet is subtitled: "Abolish our criminal government and replace it with one that serves all."
#3 He was frustrated with Biden, Trump, Zuckerberg
According to social media posts, Azzarello had filed a civil action lawsuit against prominent politicians and business owners, such as Joe Biden, Donald Trump and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. The lawsuit was filed on April 13, 2023 at the US District Court for the Southern District of New York.
#4 He was from Florida
NYPD said that Azzarello is from St. Augustine, Florida. He had come to New York last week and his family was reportedly unaware that he had left.
#5 'Multi-Trillion-Dollar Ponzi Scheme'
In his manifesto, Azzarello said that cryptocurrency is the "first planetary multi-trillion-dollar Ponzi scheme." This was specifically designed for this purpose by a host of affluent and influential individuals from Stanford/Silicon Valley and Harvard/Facebook, he alleged.
#6 'I Love You' Instagram Story
Maxwell Azzarello had posted an Instagram story moments before his "extreme act of protest" outside the Trump trial court in Manhattan. In the story, he had just written 'I love you' several times.
Here's a screenshot of the story shared on X:
"To my friends and family, witnesses and first responders, I deeply apologize for inflicting this pain upon you. But I assure you it is a drop in the bucket compared to what our government intends to inflict. Because these words are true, this is an act of revolution," he said in the manifesto.
#7 He is 37 Years Old
According to the NYPD, Azzarello is 37-year-old. Reports say that Azzarello was rushed to the Cornell University hospital’s burns unit by first responders. He is receiving treatment and is in a critical condition, the police said.
