Traveling With Pets In US? What's American Airlines New Cabin Policy That Allows Carry-Ons for Pets

American Airlines has decided to power down it's pet policy to allow passengers to bring their pets on board and a maximum-size carry-on onto the cabin. As of right now, travelers are permitted to bring one pet carrier as long as they pay the carry-on pet cost and ensure that their pet remains in the carrier beneath the seat in front of them for the duration of the trip, according to the airline's website.

American Airlines has decided to power down it's pet policy to allow passengers to bring their pets on board and a maximum-size carry-on onto the cabin. The company is allowing travelers to bring a pet inside the cabin along with a standard carry-on bag or a personal item, but not both at the same time.
Up until last week, passengers could only bring one more little item that would fit beneath the seat if they brought a pet inside the cabin, which required paying a $150 (?119) charge. Larger items, such wheeled carry-on bags, had to be checked for a $35 cost; otherwise, the pet may be placed in the cargo hold. Given that they were already paying a pet charge, several pet owners felt that the previous arrangement was unjust.
The 48 contiguous states, Alaska, Puerto Rico, Canada, Mexico, and a few US Virgin Islands are among the places that allow pets. The adjustments went into effect on March 28 and were made "to provide a more convenient and comfortable experience to customers whose pets fly American," an American Airlines representative told The Independent.
As of right now, travelers are permitted to bring one pet carrier as long as they pay the carry-on pet cost and ensure that their pet remains in the carrier beneath the seat in front of them for the duration of the trip, according to the airline's website.

Do Other Airlines Have Pet Provisions?

"Pets in kennels will count as your 1 carry-on item," the Delta Airlines website says. You are allowed to carry one personal item on board the flight in addition to the kennel. For domestic travel, the pet cost is $95 (?75) and for foreign travel, it is $200 (?159).
Pets may travel with United Airlines for $125 (?100) and are allowed as one piece of carry-on luggage.
On the other hand, travelers may currently bring one pet carrier "and a regular size carryon bag" or personal item on Southwest and Alaska Airlines. Currently, many US airlines only allow animals that are the property of reassigned military people to fly in the hold of their aircraft.
