Shivam and Abhishek, cousins, both cracked the JEE Advanced examination, achieving ranks of 2989 and 2372, respectively. Their fathers, who are siblings and work as painters, earning approximately Rs 600 per day each, were overjoyed.
As reported by TOI, More than two years ago, the painter brothers were employed at a private school when they learned about an examination for admission to IITs. Motivated by this, they enrolled their children in the same school and arranged for them to attend coaching classes for the IIT entrance exam.
Originally from Jhansi district, Rajendra Kumar and Vijendra Kumar relocated to Agra 15 years ago in search of employment opportunities. Despite facing initial hardships and experiencing days with insufficient food, they persevered through hard work and dedication to establish themselves as painters, undertaking jobs in offices, homes, and shops.
Abhishek and Shivam credited their fathers for introducing them to the JEE examination two years ago. Their dads discovered it while working on a paint job at a private school. Inspired by their fathers' ambition for their success, the cousins decided to prepare for the IIT entrance exam.
They enrolled in the same school and began attending coaching classes alongside their regular studies. Their motto, they said, is 'discipline, dedication, and determination.' They study together, devoting an extra 6-7 hours of study at home after their eight-hour coaching sessions, and tackle challenging problems as a team.
When questioned about the impact of social media on them, Shivam and Abhishek expressed their belief that it is 'a recipe for failure,' and thus, they consciously avoid it. Additionally, both cousins performed exceptionally well in their class 12 board exams. Shivam achieved 86% in class 12 and 84% in class 10 exams in Agra, while Abhishek, who completed his education up to class 10 in Jhansi, secured 87% in class 10 and 89% in class 12 board exams, TOI Reported.
In a conversation with media Abhishek and Shivam together said, “We used to study together and motivate each other. Despite financial constraints, our parents supported us; they would always keep a tab on how we progressed and boosted our confidence. We never counted the study hours but prioritised completing assignments and targets set for the day. We focused on doing a lot of revision and solving mock questions papers. We dedicate our success to our fathers, who encouraged us to dream big. We will make sure that their hard work will not go in vain.”
