Who Is Hemang Joshi? BJP Fields Its Youngest Candidate In Gujarat From Vadodara Seat

The BJP has maintained a winning streak in Vadodara's Lok Sabha elections since 1998. This constituency has elected three women MPs since 1991. Joshi is contesting against Congress' Jaspalsinh Padhiyar, a former MLA from Padra.

Vadodara: Hemang Joshi, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) youngest candidate in Gujarat, was fielded by the party from the Vadodara Lok Sabha seat after the sitting MP unexpectedly withdrew from the race, despite being renominated from the constituency.
Joshi and his wife were at a musical program when he started receiving several congratulatory calls. It was during this time that Joshi got to know that the BJP had chosen him as its candidate for the Vadodara seat.
At the age of 33, Joshi is the youngest candidate fielded by the BJP in Gujarat, a state that elects 26 MPs.

Who Is Hemang Joshi?

Hemang Joshi, currently serving as the vice chairman of the municipal primary school board, previously held the position of general secretary of the students' union at Maharaja Sayajirao University as a member of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the student wing of the RSS.
He said that he has completed a course on leadership in education from IIM Ahmedabad and is currently pursuing a PhD in leadership. His wife holds the position of an assistant professor in a medical college.
Hemang Joshi admitted that he has big shoes to fill, considering that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had won from Vadodara in 2014. PM Modi represented Vadodara before he vacated it to contest from Varanasi.
Speaking to news agency PTI, the 33-year-old BJP leader talked about his ambition to secure victory by a margin of over 10 lakh votes, a target which was set by their state chief C R Paatil. All the seats in Gujarat will vote during the third phase on May 7.
He said, “I had not even dreamt of getting the ticket. It came as a matter of immense surprise to me.”
Joshi stated that while the target for the victory margin in other seats is 5 lakh votes, Paatil has set it at 10 lakh for Vadodara. He also announced that he was included in a list of India's 40 young leaders under 40 compiled by the media platform Fox Story India.
He told the news agency, “Until my name was officially announced, I did not even get a phone call that I was being considered as the party candidate. My wife and I are working people, and we get little time to go out together. We were out to attend a musical programme at Sursagar lake in the city on Holi after offering prayers when my name was announced.”
Ranjanben Bhatt won the Vadodara bypoll in 2014 after Prime Minister Modi vacated the seat. She secured victory again in 2019 and was preparing for a third term when an internal rebellion within the local BJP unit dashed those hopes, the report said.
The BJP has maintained a winning streak in Vadodara's Lok Sabha elections since 1998. This constituency has elected three women MPs since 1991. Joshi is contesting against Congress' Jaspalsinh Padhiyar, a former MLA from Padra.
