Delhi is on high alert. Farmers are on the way to the national capital. A bunch of farmers' unions have planned a march on February 13. The protesting groups say they just want to raise their demands with the government. Farmers from Punjab and Haryana have called the protest which is likely to be joined by farm groups from other parts of the country.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has asked the Centre to listen to the demands of farmers, and not build a border between Delhi and Punjab. The Delhi Police, however, is not taking things easy. Barricades have come up at Delhi's borders. In some border areas, the police have put large nails on the roads to stop tractors.
Meanwhile, farmers are keen on making it to the capital. Reports say some protestors have equipped their tractors with machinery that can traverse through the nails-ridden roads. The General Secretary of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee, Sarvan Singh, has said the farmers will start their rally at the Beas river and spend the night at Fatehgarh Sahib. From there, they plan to march to Delhi on Tuesday.

Why Are Farmers Marching To Delhi Again?

According to Sarvan Singh, the Punjab farmers are marching to Delhi to layout their demands before the government. The general secretary of one of the unions organising the protest said that farmers have not been heard in the country for 75 years, and they just want the government to take note.
Some of the demands as declared by the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee general secretary:
1. That a law be created to ensure Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops
2. Ensure adherence to the Swaminathan Commission reports, a report that calls for MSP to be fixed at a formula of C2+50, which includes the input costs of capital plus the land rent, to guarantee farmers 50 per cent returns.
3. That the Electricity (Amendment) Bill be withdrawn.
4. That cases against farm groups be withdrawn in the Lakhimpur Kheri case.
5. That agriculture be removed from the Pollution Act
6. That the minimum number of workdays under MNREGA be extended to 200 days.
7. Farmers and agricultural labourers be given Rs 10,000 a month after they turn 60 years old.
The general secretary of the union further said that it is unfortunate that certain groups are calling protesting farmers 'anti-national'. "In a democracy, we are just going to the government to lay out our demands," he said.
