Gautam Gambhir To Quit Politics? Here's What He Said To PM Modi

New Delhi: Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has requested BJP Party President JP Nadda to release him from his political responsibilities. He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for giving him the opportunity to serve the people. Gambhir, who transitioned from cricket to politics, attributed his decision to his ongoing cricketing commitments. This plea to the senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) comes shortly before the impending announcement of the Lok Sabha elections.
The swashbuckling left-hander, on X, wrote, "I have requested Hon’ble Party President @JPNaddaji to relieve me of my political duties so that I can focus on my upcoming cricket commitments. I sincerely thank Hon’ble PM @narendramodiji and Hon’ble HM @AmitShah ji for giving me the opportunity to serve the people. Jai Hind!"
Gambhir joined the BJP in March 2019 and swiftly emerged as a notable figure for the party in Delhi. He successfully contested and secured the East Delhi seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, winning by a significant margin of 6,95,109 votes.
However, amidst speculations that Gambhir might not receive a ticket for the forthcoming 2024 polls, he has decided to step back from politics. Notably, the BJP is expected to announce the first list of 100 candidates soon.
