Kolkata: Hours after a female Raj Bhavan staff accused West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose of molestation, he has issued an order barring state police and Minister of State, Finance, Chandrima Bhattacharya from entering the Raj Bhavan. The order stated the decision has been taken for the statements she made against the Governor. Now, the issue has turned into a latest flashpoint between the BJP and TMC.
"For defamation and anti-constitutional media statements against Governor C.V. Ananda Bose, a junior gubernatorial appointee Chandrima Bhattacharya, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Department of Finance, has been banned entry into the Raj Bhavan premises in Kolkata, Darjeeling, and Barrackpore," the order from Governor's office on Thursday read.
TMC leader and Bengal minister Chandrima Bhattacharya was among the first ones to react to the allegations of sexual harassment against the Governor.
"We strongly condemn the alleged misconduct by the Governor of West Bengal. Such behavior is unbecoming of any official, especially the Head of State. We urge immediate and thorough investigation. Justice must be served!" she said in a post on X.
"I wonder what is happening in the Raj Bhavan, and that too on a day when the Prime Minister is coming to the state," she had said.
According to the Raj Bhavan statement, the Governor has contacted the Attorney General of India for advice on further legal steps against the Minister. Apart from this, the Governor has also banned the entry of police into the Raj Bhavan premises in the "guise of conducting unauthorised, illegitimate, sham and motivated investigation to placate political bosses during elections".
"Truth shall triumph. I refuse to be cowed down by engineered narratives. If anybody wants some election benefits by maligning me, God bless them. But they cannot stop my fight against corruption and violence in Bengal," the statement further read.
Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be holding rallies in West Bengal starting from Friday.

BJP's 'TMC Conspiracy' Charge

Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) has meanwhile called the entire row a "conspiracy by the TMC", stating that the party is "politically cornered" on the issue of SSC scam.
"We all know that the TMC is politically cornered on the issue of SSC scam and is looking for a breathing space. So this needs to be seen whether this is a conspiracy by the TMC or it has any iota of truth in it," he said, quoted PTI.

What Is The Case

A temporary female employee of the Raj Bhavan accused the Governor of sexual harassment. She reportedly filed a written complaint with the police accusing Governor CV Ananda Bose of outraging her modesty, reported IANS. The woman reportedly claimed to be a temporary staff attached to the Peace Room in the Raj Bhavan.
According to the report, the complainant approached the officer-in-charge of the police outpost located inside the Governor's House, who then immediately contacted the local Hare Street police station, under which the Raj Bhavan falls. Later, the woman was taken to the Hare Street police station from the Raj Bhavan, where she registered a written complaint against the Governor.
News agency PTI reported citing sources in the Raj Bhavan that the woman, along with her alleged boyfriend, was bocking the complaints being sent to Election Commission. Her boyfriend, sources added, is also an employee of the Raj Bhavan.
"When she was reprimanded for that, she went outside and alleged molestation. She is in the habit of throwing tantrums against her colleagues because of some disease," a Raj Bhavan sources told PTI.

Governor's Response To Accusations.

In a series of posts on X, Governor CV Ananda Bose dismissed the allegations levelled against him and term them "engineered narratives".
"To the Raj Bhavan staff who expressed solidarity with Hon’ble Governor Dr. C. V. Ananda Bose against whom some derogatory narratives were circulated by two disgruntled employees as agents of political parties, Hon’ble Governor said," the post read.
"Truth shall triumph. I refuse to be cowed down by engineered narratives. If anybody wants some election benefits by maligning me, God Bless them. But they cannot stop my fight against corruption and violence in Bengal," it added.
