Two more accused have been arrested in the Renukaswamy murder case involving Kannada actor Darshan. The suspects, both auto drivers, voluntarily surrendered at the office of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Dinakar in Chitradurga. The two accused turned themselves in at the Chitradurga police station, marking a crucial step forward in the investigation surrounding the murder.
Meanwhile, Karnataka police have obtained crucial CCTV footage that captures the moment of abduction of Renukaswamy, the 33-year-old pharmacy worker who was beaten to death allegedly by Darshan's aides over obscene texts he allegedly sent to the actor's wife, Pavithra Gowda.
The footage, obtained from a toll plaza, reveals one of the accused, Raghu, in the driver’s seat, with another accused sitting in the passenger seat.
According to reports, Renukaswamy was forcibly taken from Chitradurga and transported to a secluded shed in Bengaluru. It was at this location that he endured a brutal beating, ultimately leading to his death.
The CCTV footage from the toll plaza is expected to play a crucial role in court, as it clearly documents the involvement of the accused and the sequence of Renukaswamy's abduction.
The CCTV footage came to light after the driver of the taxi that ferried Renukaswamy from Chitradurga to Bengaluru surrendered before the police on Thursday evening. The driver, identified as Ravi, had gone into hiding after the murder. He surrendered following the advice of Taxi Association in Chitradurga, police sources said.
Darhsan's aides had used Ravi's taxi to transport Renukaswamy to their hideout in Bengaluru where he was tortured to death for making "derogatory" messages to Pavithra on her alleged affair with Darshan.
The police suspect Darshan's aides lured the 34-year-old pharmacy worker to abduct him from Chitradurga.
Renukaswamy, police sources say, was tied to a rope and beaten up with wooden sticks in the presence of actor Darshan and Pavithra Gowda, resulting in his death.
Later, Renukaswamy's body was transported in a SUV and disposed off in a stormwater drain at Kamakshipalya police station limits.
Both Darshan, his wife Pavithra and other accused are in police custody till Saturday, June 15.
