Panchak refers to 5 days of the month that are considered inauspicious. During these five days, certain kinds of work are prohibited. Panchak takes place every month.
Not only that, people are also prohibited from making any auspicious wishes during Panchak. This is because it is believed that doing so can bring inauspicious results for them, or they will face unnecessary hurdles in their work and life.
There are 5 types of Panchak – Agni Panchak, Chor Panchak, Mrityu Panchak, Raj Panchak, and Rog Panchak. The Panchak in April is Chor Panchak and is starting from 5th April.
Types of Panchaks And Days Associated With Them
The Panchak starting on Tuesday is called Agni Panchak. There is fear of fire in this Panchak.
The Panchak starting on Saturday is called Mrityu Panchak. In this Panchak, there is suffering which can take one close to death. There is a possibility of accidents, confrontation, or arguments with other people during this Panchak.
The Panchak starting on Monday is called Raj Panchak. This is an auspicious Panchak, in which one’s wealth increases.
The Panchak starting on Sunday is called Rog Panchak. No auspicious work is done in this Panchak. In this, the person is afraid of physical pain.
Panchak which starts on Friday is called Chor Panchak. This is also considered an inauspicious Panchak.
Chor Panchak along with some other Panchaks are considered particularly inauspicious. Any work done during Chor Panchak is said to cause multiple problems for the person. Therefore, one needs to take some precautions during these five days.
This April, Chor Panchak is starting from 07:12 am on Friday, April 5, 2024, and it will end at 07:32 am on 9th April 2024.
However, this time a strange coincidence is happening on Panchak. Papamochini Ekadashi fast will be observed on the first day of Panchak, and Panchak is ending on the morning of the first day of Chaitra Navratri. Therefore, this time Ghatasthapana and puja will not be affected due to Panchak.
Solar eclipse during Panchak
Secondly, a solar eclipse will also take place during this Panchak. The first solar eclipse of the year is occurring on 8th April, and it will be the fourth day of the Panchak period. However, since this solar eclipse will not be visible in India, it will not have any significant impact here.
Things to be avoided during Panchak
One should not travel in the south direction during the Panchak period. This direction is considered to be the direction of Yama, the God of Death. Traveling in this direction during Panchak is said to increase the chances of a person meeting with a serious accident or if they are going for some work then they might face hindrances or may end up facing huge losses. However, if it is essential for one to travel, then while leaving home, people should take a few steps forward and then start the journey again.
It is also said that one should not start a new business or a job during the five days of Chor Panchak. One should also abstain from finalizing any big deals during this period, as the chances of them failing are very high.
Undertaking any kind of financial transactions should also be avoided during Chor Panchak as it could lead to heavy losses or even bankruptcy.
Not only should financial transactions be avoided during Panchak, but one should also avoid lending money to anyone and neither should one undertake a load during these five days. Taking a loan during this period increases one’s debt burden, while there is a good chance of losing the money lent.
During the Panchak period, it is also advisable to avoid making investments as there is a possibility that one will not make good returns on them and might end up losing money which can lead to financial difficulties.
Other works that are prohibited include not making a bed, laying the foundation or roof of a new house, getting married, performing Upanayana Sanskar, etc.
