Sita ji was born on the ninth day of Vaishakh Shukla Paksha. This year Vaishakh Shukla Navami will start from 06.22 am on 16th May and will continue till 08.48 am on 17th May. On this day, Sita ji is worshiped and Mother Lakshmi is pleased, because Sita ji is considered to be another form of Goddess Lakshmi.
For happy married life and also the long and healthy life of their husbands, married women should offer 16 shringars or adornments to Mother Sita on Sita Navami, then donate these wedding items among the married women.
Married women should reictes the Sita Chalisa on Sita Navami. It is believed that due to its effect the relationship between husband and wife becomes stronger. Love between the husband and wives increases, there is better understanding between the two and there is peace and happiness in their married lives.
Offer kheer to Mother Goddess on Sita Navami. Then distribute it among seven girls. These measures will help in getting rid of the financial crisis and overall happiness will prevail in the family.
To wish for early marriage, unmarried girls should recite Shri Janaki Stuti on the day of Sita Navami. It is believed that this removes the inauspiciousness of the planets in the horoscope. This opens the door for an early marriage.
King Janak had found Mother Sita in the field. On the day of Sita Navami, one should feed fodder to cows and bulls, make arrangements for drinking water and serve the animals. This fulfills the desired wish.
Rituals on Sita Navami
Sita Navami, celebrated on the ninth day of the Shukla Paksha (bright fortnight) in the Hindu month of Vaishakha, commemorates the birth of Goddess Sita, the consort of Lord Rama. Here are some of the essential rituals to follow on Sita Navami
- Early Morning Bath: Begin the day by taking an early morning bath, preferably in a river or pond, as it is considered auspicious on this day.
- Chanting of Mantras: Chant the Rama Raksha Stotra, Sita Stuti, or other devotional mantras dedicated to Lord Rama and Goddess Sita.
- Performing Aarti: Perform aarti, a ritual of waving lighted lamps before the deities, as a mark of respect and devotion.
- Fasting: Observe a fast on Sita Navami, consuming only sattvic (pure) food items like fruits, milk, and dry fruits.
- Puja and Prayers: Perform puja and recite prayers to Lord Rama and Goddess Sita. Offer flowers, fruits, and sweets as part of the ritual.
- Visiting Temples: Visit temples dedicated to Lord Rama and Goddess Sita, offer prayers, and seek their blessings
