India will continue to miss out on the services of KL Rahul in the third Test match as well as he isn't fit for the fixture. Rahul missed the second Test match due to quadriceps pain. He made his return for the last three Test matches. Rahul hinted at being fit as he shared a video of him batting in the nets.
The BCCI has revealed that Rahul is 90 percent fit and has been replaced by former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) opener, Devdutt Padikkal. The left-handed batsman is plying his trade for Karnataka in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season.
Padikkal has been performing well in the tournament and has piled up 556 runs in only six innings. He has batted at an average of 92.66. His tally includes 3 centuries. Padikkal scored a brilliant 151 and 36 in the recently concluded Ranji fixture against Tamil Nadu.
He was part of the India A squad for the series against England Lions. Padikkal presented his case for a national call-up with a brilliant century in his first game against the Lions. He followed up with knocks of 65 and 21.
Padikkal has never been part of the Test team before. He earned his maiden India call-up for the Sri Lanka tour in 2021 and has played 2 T20Is.
With Rahul absent, Sarfaraz Khan could be handed his Test debut in Rajkot. India are already without the services of Virat Kohli while Shreyas Iyer has been dropped.
Star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is fit and will be part of the final XI in the third Test match in Rajkot. He suffered a hamstring injury in the first game and missed the second Test match.
The Rajkot Test match will be played from February 15 to 19. The five-match Test series between two teams is levelled 1-1.
