Lebron James vs Michael Jordan is one of the unanswered questions that still loom over the sporting world. The debate has many aspects that are evenly distributed amongst the two G.O.A.T candidates. While Lebron has undoubtedly cemented his legacy as the all time scorer of the league, one of the major differences that remain are the six rings Jordan won during his tenure as a Chicago Bulls player.
According to a survey similar done by HoopsHype to The Athletic’s recent survey which asked active NBA players who was their greatest of all time, Michael Jordan was voted as the G.O.AT by 49% of the 100 players who voted whereas Lebron garnered only 37% of the votes with Kobe Bryant coming in 3rd with 7% people voting for them.
When I watched him, it’s like he invented basketball. You look at the numbers, how he played, how he could score and defend. It’s like he perfected the game. You don’t pass 99 on Madden and 2K, so I got Mike,” said Dennis Smith Jr.
Lebron’s Laker teammate, Spencer Dinwiddie certainly weighed in with his opinion
“LeBron because I judge it on who I’d draft No. 1 in an all-time draft,” Dinwiddie told HoopsHype. “He’s had 20-plus years of basically going to the Conference Finals. I’d say globally, LeBron is a bigger icon, like business included. I think Jordan is a bigger hero, in a sense, just because he was so different from what we had seen. We’d already seen dominant guards and wings once LeBron came in,” said the former Nets player.
Lebron’s quest for his fifth ring still eludes him as the Los Angeles Lakers were eliminated by familiar foes in the Denver Nuggets. The reigning NBA Champions defeated the Lakers in five games in the first round. It is still unsure whether the all time leading scorer will be in a Lakers uniform next season as he enters his 22nd season in the league. The King is still performing at an extremely high level and would want to compete for the coveted title once again in his twilight years.
